A Living Room is just not what it used to be – the formal room that was only for special occasions.

Image: BeforeWhen Claire and Chris invited us to their lovely home, they told us that they were tired of having a room that they never even sat in.
A firm believer in using every room in the house to its fullest potential, I knew I was going to be able to give Claire and Chris the place they were looking forward to having. A quiet place to read and relax without the distraction of a TV.

Most of all, they wanted this room to be comfortable and inviting, since their living room is the first room that visitors see when they enter the home – something that rings true for many home owners.
The sectional and the coffee table were the only pieces that needed to stay in the room. Moving the sectional in to the room further not only allowed room for an interesting console—it also created a conversation area.

More seating was added – two wing chairs framed the fireplace with an additional chair by the sectional to complete the comfortable gathering space.

Now the long wall features family photos and there is a place to showcase the wonderful artwork that was alone on another wall.

The fireplace took on even more importance with a screen and a sunburst mirror. Window treatments with a great print brought excitement to the room. By adding a pop of red and a bit of aqua throughout, we created a room that beckons.

Don’t be afraid to mix metals in a room. Combining gold with silver and even black metals make a much more interesting statement.
